Peaceful Spaces

Peaceful spaces.  These two words invite us in.  They call us to consider how each of us finds and experiences peace.

For me, for as long as I can remember, peace has always been a holy longing.

When I have encountered peace, sometimes I've found it in the quietness of a sanctuary or chapel, taking a serene walk through sacred places, or through the eyes of another- times I now refer to as "the holding times."

The holding times are when I hold the hand of another as they walk through uncertain times---when the ministry of presence offers an extension of peace both for the receiver and the giver.

For the care receiver, there is peace in knowing that someone saw you "valuable enough" to be there by your side.  And for the care giver, there is also peace in knowing that someone would trust you enough to allow you into their vulnerable places- during their own times of uncertainty.

Out of all the things that are life giving--for me it is when I am with people--- with people in need of knowing that they are not alone. With people as they enter into the place of peace--the knowledge that they are somebody that matters.

Because every life matters to God.  And what matters to God... is often where peace enters in.

So let's talk....How has peace entered into your life?
